Weekly Conversation #11

Last week in our prayer foundation mentorship class, we spent time reflecting on the person of the Holy Spirit. We were reminded that He is never distant; He is our ever-present Helper, our Teacher, and our Comforter (John 14:26).

And I want to continue the conversation here today with a question I hear so often from many, "I don’t hear the Holy Spirit. Why is He silent?" Sisters, I want to gently challenge that perspective. The truth is, He speaks every single time. His character is consistent, and His promise is sure, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me" (John 10:27).

The problem is rarely that the Holy Spirit has gone silent. Often, the challenge is that we have allowed obstacles to block the signal. Stubbornness, pride, deep-seated offense, ingratitude, Constant complaining and bitterness, these things act like static, turning up the internal volume until the noise of our own hearts drowns out the whispers of the Spirit. We find ourselves crying out for answers to prayer, seeking direction for our lives, and pleading for clarity. Yet we are often too internally crowded to receive it. Our minds are racing, our schedules are packed, and our hearts are so full of other things that we haven’t made the necessary room for His voice.

If you feel like you’ve been seeking God’s guidance but coming up short, I invite you to take a step back with me. Let’s do the internal work required to clear the air. First, release the weight. Forgive that person you’ve been holding a grudge against. Take accountability, apologize where the Spirit has convicted you. Embrace the pause, be still and refuse to rush. If you have asked Him for help, posture yourself to receive what He is already releasing. As Psalm 46:10 reminds us, there is a specific clarity that only comes when we "be still, and know that I am God."

Over the next few days, we are going to dive deeper into how to cultivate this intimacy. But for today, it begins with a simple, surrendered commitment, a soft heart and a quiet spirit.

Reflection

What is one "noise" you need to lay down this week so you can hear Him more clearly? Is it pride? An unresolved offense? The frantic pace of hurry? Or perhaps a root of bitterness?

He is speaking. Let’s be women who are ready to hear. Blessings.
